sfclubguide.com was founded in 1998 by Bret Wadleigh. Bret first became involved in the club scene in 1996, promoting parties at the notorious Club 181 in the Tenderloin District. Bret used his technology background to design the sfclubguide.com website and build a web-based RSVP system.

In 1999, Bret teamed up with his friend Asa Moss to throw a party at Butter. The party was a huge success, with a crowd eager to attend the next event.
